Belgrade Strategic Dialogue
Serbia’s Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic at the opening of the conference

In June 2017, Serbia launched new discussions about European integration, thereby establishing a bridge between Europe and Russia. LGP is assisting with this process to increase regional stability in the Western Balkan states.

At the end of June 2017, Belgrade played host to the launch event for the “Belgrade Strategic Dialogue”, which LGP helped to organise. It focused on the importance of Serbia in stabilising the Western Balkan states, and the country’s potential role as an intermediary between the European Unionand the Russian Federation.

Serbian and European politicians took part in a roundtable discussion alongside Russian officials. The panel on EU matters was co-organised by LGP, and saw discussions between former high-level diplomat and High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Wolfgang Petritsch, former Greek Foreign Minister and Member of the European Parliament Dimitrios Droutsas, and Austria’s previously highest-ranking civil servant Manfred Matzka (all Of Counsels at LGP), Szabolc Fazakas, representative of the European Court of Auditors, Duma representatives Sergey Zheleznyak, Valeriy Ivanov, Andrey Klimov and Svetlana Zhurova, as well as Olga Zinovieva, head of the A. A. Sinoviev centre at MSU. This conference provided a multi-layered, sophisticated view of current political relations in Europe, which was also put across by prominent journalists such as Bojan Brkic, Ljubinka Milincic, Christian Wehrschütz and Jaksa Scekic. A follow-up event is planned for 2018.
