Matthias Cernusca is an attorney-at-law at LGP who specialises in criminal law. He advises and represents his clients on all matters relating to national and international criminal law, on questions of legal assistance and on extradition law. Matthias Cernusca has broad-based experience in defending private individuals and companies in criminal investigations, in the main court proceedings and in appeals procedures. One focus of his work is on handling criminal cases on behalf of plaintiffs, in drafting criminal complaints and in pursuing plaintiffs’ claims in criminal proceedings. Matthias Cernusca also has comprehensive expertise in providing advice on matters of commercial criminal law. Furthermore, he has acquired a specialism that is rarely seen in Austria: international criminal law. This involves providing a defence and representing victims in connection with the most serious crimes (e.g. war crimes). The criminal law expert’s profile is completed by his skills in drafting compliance programmes and on questions of criminal law prevention – such as offering opinions to avoid executives or CEOs being liable under the business judgement rule. In addition to criminal law, contentious civil law also comprises one of his key advisory areas.
