LGP Legal Solutions hosts investment conference in Belgrade

Belgrade, February 3rd 2011 - In the event organized by Dr. Gabriel Lansky, together with the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (Österreichischen Wirtschaftskammer- AWO), prominent investors and policymakers discussed business opportunities in the Serbian energy and infrastructure sectors.

In cooperation with the Foreign Trade Department of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (Österreichischen Wirtschaftskammer- AWO), the alliance of independent lawyers at LGP Legal Solutions invited potential investors and senior representatives of the Serbian government for a panel discussion on 03 February 2011 on furthering development of the Serbian energy and infrastructure sectors and to a cocktail reception of the Austrian Business Circle of Belgrade. In attendance were numerous guests influential in politics and business, including Secretary of State Professor Dr. Nikola Rajaković, business delegate from the Austrian Economic Chamber in Belgrade Mag. Andreas Haidenthaler, CEO of Erste Bank Serbia Slavko Carić, and Director of TINA Vienna Urban Technologies & Strategies Senatsrat Mag. Otto Schwetz.

Laying the foundations for foreign investment!

In his remarks to the panel Mag. Andreas Haidenthaler drew attention to the traditionally strong economic ties between the two countries and to Austria's role as a leading investor in Serbia. Further, with regard to the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors, the legal framework is optimized to bring foreign capital into the country. Discussion leader Dr. Gabriel Lansky indicated the relevance of this point concerning PPP projects. The swift implementation of the corresponding law represents a necessary prerequisite for the increased involvement of international businesses. Prominent lawyer LGP Legal Solutions associate Dr. Miloš Živković of the Office of Živković Samardžić noted, "We still have learning needs, particularly regarding the feasibility of PPP projects. We need to look at each case individually, which on the consultant’s end presupposes excellent local knowledge and simultaneously the view of international standards". He additionally insisted on more realistically feasible and profitable projects, especially concerning the more than 3,000 branches in eight countries in Central and Southeastern Europe active with Erste Group. Aside from the financing of PPP projects he showed great interest overall, especially in renewable energy.

As representative of the Vienna Centre of Excellence with many ideas in terms of investment, Senatsrat Mag. Otto Schwetz brought his know-how in the field of urban and environmental technologies to the discussion moderated by lawyer and LGP-Legal Solutions founder Dr. Gabriel Lansky. But solely its geographical location on the Danube, for instance, predestined Belgrade for investments in the port area. The Port of Vienna would be a good partner here.

Finally, State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Prof. Dr. Nikola Rajaković, the participants’ insight into the projected development of sectors with investment needs, presented a comprehensive list of the Serbian government's priority projects. Two main goals were clear: the need for renewal of obsolete equipment and the enforcement of EU standards. The representative of the Serbian government expressed his concerns to this aim: "We need investments in infrastructure, particularly in the energy sector, and we must set for ourselves the goal of replacing outdated facilities and implementing EU standards".

Following the panel discussion the Austrian Business Circle of Belgrade and LGP Legal Solutions invited over 120 businesspeople for a cocktail reception and brief presentation courtesy of Dr. Gabriel Lansky of Lansky, Ganzger & Partner at the Grand Casino Belgrade.

Vienna Economic Forum: Stable Economy – Challenge and Responsibility

Vienna, Nov. 8th 2010 - this year’s 7th Vienna Economic Forum President and Secretary General Ambassador Elena Kirtcheva welcomed around 570 participants from 44 countries and from 15 international organisations. During the ceremonies of signing the Memorandum of Understanding were held between Vienna Economic Forum (VEF) and the Business Advisory Council for Southeastern Europe and Biopolitics International located in Athens.

In his statement on regulation of financial markets after the crisis, Gabriel Lansky pointed out that “EU must close ranks and bank on “more sustainable growth”. (…) At the moment the union is an observer and not an actor on the international arena. But we need more Europe and not less. In this connection, legal experts should not just be consulted on legal issues and formulations, they should also play an active role in finding decisions. They should help develop early-warning systems and compile new legal norms that should also contribute to anchoring desired conduct or conduct that should be sanctioned more in the national legal system.”
